Family Migrations

Each year the Australian Government sets the Migration Program and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has a responsibility to ensure that the numbers of visas that are granted are in line with the planning levels that have been set.

  • The global service standard for partner visas is 12 months. See: processing times
  • The Nairobi Office is currently finalising partner visas in approximately 12 months.
  • This is an indication of the time that visa processing may take. It is not a formal service standard.  Some applications may take longer or shorter times depending on a range of factors including the individual’s circumstances, complexity of the case and the completeness of the application
  • When your application is received, you will receive an acknowledgement letter and be advised of your file number.
  • A case officer will be in contact with you following assessment if further documentation is required or whether an interview is needed. Due to processing times, this can be up to 10 months after the acknowledgement of your application.
  • If cases are assessed as meeting all requirements they are forwarded for final assessment and decision.
  • When an application reaches the point of final assessment, if nothing further is required, you will be notified of the decision at that time.

Complete Applications/Sending Documents

  • Applications containing complete documentation at the time of lodgement will ensure there are no additional delays.
  • Checklists for each subclass are available to assist you on our website and should be included with the application.
  • Accurately completing forms with answers to all questions assists in the processing of your application. Not providing information could result in your application being made invalid, or refused.
  • Please ensure you send all additional documents requested by your case officer at the same time.
  • Sending documents separately will result in further delays to your application. The visa office will not always acknowledge receipt of additional documents immediately.
  • You can track your documents directly with your courier company, through Teleperformance if you applied at an Australian Visa Application Centre or through your Immi Account if you applied online.
  • You may wish to include a delivery or read receipt if sending additional documents by email to be satisfied your documents have been received. Case officers will review these documents. Please note, you will not receive acknowldgement for additional documents sent.
