How to obtain an Australian Passport in East Africa during COVID-19

The following information should be read in conjunction with the information on the Passports Website.

The Australian High Commission in Nairobi and our Australian Consulate in Kampala, Uganda, continue to offer passport services for Australians in East Africa during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 

Please note it is a requirement to attend an interview and lodge your passport application in person, including during COVID-19. If you are in Uganda, please contact the Consulate on:

Be prepared that airport closures and movement restrictions are delaying the delivery of completed passports.

Australian Passport Information

Applications or renewals of an Australian passport will be accepted by appointment only, Monday to Thursday between 9:00am and 4:00pm, or Friday between 9:00am and 12:00pm (subject to appointment availability and excluding High Commission public holidays)

You DO NOT require an appointment to collect your passport.

Family groups: Please make a separate appointment for each applicant.

Fees are payable in KSH or USD – cash and direct debit  and are adjusted monthly in line with the exchange rate.  For current fee information please contact the Consular Services Section by email: [email protected]

Other Travel Documents

Under some circumstances a limited-validity Emergency passport or other type of travel document may be issued to facilitate urgent travel to Australia. Please contact the Consular Services Section for further information.

For information regarding a child’s passport application without consent from each person with parental responsibility, please refer to Passports explained - child passports.  Applications without the consent of both parents named on the child’s birth certificate, must be referred to Canberra. A decision may take up to an additional 6 weeks. *It is advisable not to make firm plans or pay for tickets until approval for the issue of the child’s passport has been confirmed.

The Consular Services Section does not process or provide information regarding Australian visa applications or for applications for Australian citizenship. Information regarding visas and Australian citizenship is available here.
